Borussia Dortmund embarass Spanish trio in Champions League

Borussia Dortmund will take a 1-0 lead to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, and are probably still the outsiders to win the competition. However in one sense they have already surpassed the trio of Spanish giants in the competition.

Ahead of the quarter-finals, there was outrage at the price of tickets in Spain . Atletico Madrid were the cheapest at €70 to face Dortmund themselves, seeing PSG at Montjuic, or Manchester City at the Bernabeu would have cost a minimum of €125. The top end of those price scales were €335, €399 and €445 respectively, bearing in mind these were not VIP tickets.

As recounted by Sport, Dortmund were charging fans just €12 for children, and €18 for adults, with the most expensive seats at €80, around 50% cheaper than the cheapest at Real Madrid or Barcelona. The Schwarzgelben received around 600,000 ticket requests for their 81,000-seater, the Signal Iduna Park, for the match against PSG.

Tickets for Bayern Munich’s visit to the Bernabeu on Wednesday will be the same price scale as it was against Manchester City. BVB show that it is not in fact necessary to have such outlandish prices for the common fan, but rather greed, in a country with a much lower average income than in Germany.
